What we keep, and why
NovaGive makes the giving kiosk and runs the service behind it for churches, mosques and temples. This page says what the kiosk and the service collect from the people who give and from the places of worship, what it is for, how long it is kept, and how to have it removed.
When you give at a kiosk
The kiosk takes your gift with a card tap, insert or swipe through a certified payment terminal. NovaGive never sees or stores your card number. The payment network returns an approval and the kiosk keeps the record of the gift: the amount, the date and time, the card brand and its last four digits, the approval reference, and the language the screen was in. That record is what the place of worship's monthly report, and your receipt, are made from.
Your receipt
Only if you ask for a receipt does the kiosk take an email address or a mobile number. It is used to send that receipt and, if the gift is later refunded, a note saying so. The kiosk keeps the address for 90 days and then clears it; the service that sends receipts keeps the gift record, with the address encrypted, for the place of worship's own records and statements, for seven years, as tax records are kept.
News from the place you gave to, with your consent
Under the address field, the kiosk may show an unticked box. If you tick it, you agree that the place of worship you gave to may send you news and appeals at that address: by email, or by text at most four times a month. It is never a condition of giving, and the receipt comes whether or not you tick it. The kiosk records, with the gift, the exact words you agreed to, the language they were in and the time, so that your consent can always be shown and so that it can always be withdrawn.
Every email carries an unsubscribe link and every text says how to stop; a reply of STOP ends every text from NovaGive's number at once. The list of people who said yes belongs to that place of worship alone. NovaGive does not share, rent or sell addresses or mobile numbers to anyone, and mobile opt-in information is never passed to third parties for their marketing. The texting program terms describe the messages in full.
Who holds your information
The place of worship you gave to is responsible for your information; NovaGive processes it on their behalf, to send receipts and reports, to send the messages you agreed to, and to keep the records above. NovaGive's own staff see it only to support the service. It is stored in the United States with the cloud providers NovaGive uses to run the service and to send email and texts, each under contract to use it for nothing else.
Staff of a place of worship
Staff who sign in to the NovaGive portal do so with their email address; a one-time link is emailed to them, there is no password. The portal keeps their name, address, role and sign-in times, and a log of what was done in it, so that every change to a donor's information can be accounted for.
This website
The website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. The contact form sends what you type to NovaGive by email and keeps nothing else. The hosting provider keeps ordinary server logs for a short time.
Your choices
- To stop messages: use the unsubscribe link in any email, reply STOP to any text, or tell the place of worship.
- To be removed: ask the place of worship you gave to, or write to support@novagives.com. Your address or number is then erased from every record; the gift itself stays in the place of worship's books, as any donation does, and a note that you asked not to be contacted is kept so that the request is honoured for good.
- To see what is held: ask the place of worship or write to the address above.
Children
The kiosk is for adults making a gift. NovaGive does not knowingly collect an address or number from a child under 13; one that comes to our notice is erased.
